Guitar Hero Targets New Market
Since 2005 when the initially Guitar Hero game was released for the Playstation 2, gamers just can’t get enough of the Guitar Hero series. Up until now Guitar Hero have released 10 uncommon games, the initially ones being based more on guitars. With the introduction of competition, Rock Band, Activision has been mandatory to introduce new instruments to their games.
But, Guitar Hero have 3 games in the pipe, but this time, they are trying to get the edge over Rock Band with a non guitar based music game.
Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and DJ Hero are the 3 new Guitar Hero games that are due for relief towards the end of 2009. The initially one, Guitar Hero 5, is a standard Guitar Hero game, featuring the standard instruments as well as a 85 strong set list. A new guitar controller is being released with this game, no doubt this controller will prove to be successful over the older develop.
Band Hero is the next one up, this is the same thought as Guitar Hero 5, but, this one is more family based. Activision is using this game relief as another way to try and get a larger cut of the market, this time, family gaming.
The final game is DJ Hero. This is something really new and this is Activision’s way of taking on a new piece of the market. The game is being released along side a new DJ Deck controller which will feature 3 buttons and 2 slider bars. Because DJ Hero is targeting a groundbreaking new target market, it’s nearly impossible to tell if the game will be successful. But, if it does prove to be successful, will we eventually see a whole new range of future Guitar Hero’s? Obviously the name would have to be changed from Guitar Hero, like DJ Hero was. Plus, will Rock Band come out with their own range of new games if DJ Hero does hit off.
There are a number of uncommon markets that neither companies have targeted so far. One being piano lovers. No doubt a Piano Hero game would be well loved because you would get both present piano players, as well as more classical players who prefer to play grand pianos.
A classical translation of Guitar Hero is another angle they haven’t released yet. Classical guitars are hugely well loved and by bringing out a video game like Classical Guitar Hero, you would nearly be entering a new market because the age of the player would be uncommon to the age of a standard Guitar Hero player.
Those 2 thoughts for games were just a few that I have had, no doubt they won’t be made, but I’m hopeful for atleast one of them. It all boils down to whether DJ Hero will be a success for gaming giant Activision. Another problem would be whether or not Activision reckon a game like Classical Guitar Hero would make any money at all.
These are all things that would be considered, but I do hope that in the future we see something like Piano Hero.
