Dominate All Kinds of PvP with this Hunter Guide
PvP combat is in your Hunter’s future, even if you’ve avoided it so far. Wrath of the Lich King has brought a new emphasis to Planet PvP. There’s now a real time PvP battle zone called Lake Wintergrasp. There, the emphasis is on real-time Planet PvP. There players battle on the live server to earn points they can use to buy a wide variety of special items, including the new Heirloom items. These are items that any of the player’s characters in that account regardless of that character’s level can take advantage of.
With Lake Wintergrasp’s high popularity, and the increasing amount of PvP combat in other well loved games, there will surely be even more Planet PvP in the future. So let’s talk about Hunters and PvP:
If you want to be a Hunter in PvP combat, it helps to have the instincts of a hunter. Why? Because you’re going to need to be able to identify your prey and know how it will behave in various situations. You need this information so you can hunt it down and terminate it. You need to know the capabilities of your character and its gear, as well as the tactical situation. Then you need to maneuver into position and terminate your prey with farthest prejudice before it can take you down. In WoW PvP, it’s much the same, apart from that your prey is another player’s character as a replacement for of an animal.
But, in Hunter PvP combat, there are issues that no real-planet hunter has to deal with. Understanding the right time to use your Freezing and Frost Traps and essential crowd control devices is de rigueur but not enough. You need to know how to manage the interval between you and your opponents so you can cause as much ranged hurt as possible in each duel. And you must do all this against an intelligent character, rather than a wild animal.
To truly succeed in Hunter PvP combat, you need to know the behavior of each class of opponent and have a approach for dealing with them. In particular you need to know how Druids or Warriors or Rogues are likely to come at you. And you need to know how to counter those classes that can close to melee combat range quickly, such as Warriors and Rogues.
It’s possible to learn what you need to know by putting in enough time in the arena. But from my own personal experience, if you try this you can expect to get defeated regularly and be humiliated for a long time. You don’t want to know how many hours I spent at the bottom of the standings in the arena before I irrevocably started getting the hang of it. Once I started reading a Hunter PvP Guide, I started climbing in the standings rapidly.
Because a quality PvP Guide incorporates the hard-earned experience of Hunters with a vast amount of experience, it will contain information that you’re unlikely to learn on your own. It will teach you the most vital things to know, saving you a huge check of time you would otherwise have to spend dying in battle before you become excellent at PvP combat.
