The Nintendo R4 DS Card Blows Up The Nintendo DSi With Brix DS Homebrew Puzzle Game

I like having the chance to write about the Nintendo R4 Card and NDS homebrew games in general.  I absolutely like to check out the latest NDS homebrew games or homebrew applications for the Nintendo R4 DS.  I am always so very surprised at what hard wroking developers of these homebrew games are keen to give away and place out for free, for all of us to delight in.  It’s not about the money for them, or how much they could sell a game, but more a means to learning how the Nintendo DS works, making some truly unique and challenging games or apps for the fun of it. It’s something they do for the pure joy of making a game.  And of course, I am sure they like having thousands and thousands of homebrew gamers download and play their games.

And speaking of NDS homebrew games, there’s a new game I happened to find (and quickly downloaded) last week called Brix DS.  I am a very huge fan of any kind of puzzle game, and especially puzzle games that try to stand out by being really unique or have a uncommon take on the puzzler genre.  Any puzzle game fan knows what I’m talking about, we’ve all had enough of the match these shapes or colors to make the go away, I want to play something thats uncommon and unique.  Thankfully Brix DS doesn’t lack in the unique department, offering up both unique gameplay and a bit of a uncommon take on your avaerage puzzle game, too.  Brix DS in it’s third translation – and Brix DS V3.0 has only gotten better.  V3 of Brix DS brings the whole number of stages to 73, with the addition of the 16 new stages that have been added in this translation.

The purpose in the game is simple: do everything you can to make sure you do not drop the dynamite on to the impose a curfew while you eliminate or remove rows of bricks underneath the platform that holds the dynamite.  Beating each stage may signal simple, but it gets harder and harder as you have to take into account where the dynamite might fall if you remove certain bricks.  To mix things up a bit, there are dark grey bricks that you can’t get rid of, so you’ll have to make sure you’re taking them into account as you remove each level of the light grey bricks.  You may look at this and thing “That’s simple, I can balance the dynamite by removing these two bricks”, but the fact of the matter is, you can’t just remove the bricks one after the other, you have to wait while your player re-charges to be able ot break the next brick.

The difficulty of course is fantastic for a puzzle game.  You’ll find yourself going through the initially few levels with ease, only to realize there’s much more of  challenge coming up in the later levels.  This game is one of those games that you can play over and over over again, but don’t forget, you’ll need to have a Nintendo R4 card to be able to delight in this free homebrew game.

The best thing about the developer of Brix DS is they constantly update it.  In fact, several dozen new levels have been added since it’s v1 relief, and Nintendo R4 owners defintely want this trend to continue.  And naturally, just as the game itself, each of these updates is completely free to all Nintendo R4 DS Card gamers.  You will not have to spend a single dollar to get any of the new updates or new levels that are plotted and being worked on by the developer I have yet to find any money-making game that can offer the same thing.
