WoW Alchemy – Achieving the Ultimate Wisdom

Alchemy is one of the most useful crafting professions one can find in WoW. Many players chose to level this profession because it is honestly simple to level it quick and because it is useful in more ways than one. An alchemist mixes, transmutes and makes. An Alchemist has a purpose to make powerful consumables such as pots, flasks and elixirs and useful primal or metal transmutations. Click here for more on WoW Alchemy Leveling Guide

Alchemy and Herbalism

If you choose Alchemy then choosing Herbalism to accompany it would be ideal. An Alchemist wants herbs in order to level up his skill and produce and therefore most players that choose to take Alchemy as their primary profession pair it with Herbalism.

Tools for the Alchemy

An Alchemist wants herbs for his work and he also wants vials. The vials can be obtained at any vendor who sells Alchemy Supplies found in all the major cities. Alchemists with a high level skill can also perform useful transmutations with metals and essential materials.

A specific requirement for any transmute is a Philosopher’s Stone. This stone is made at the lower level of Alchemy and an Alchemist who wants to conduct his transmutation work genteel wants to keep this stone in his inventory. When used, the Philosopher’s Stone will have a cooldown which will prevent an Alchemist to perform a similar transmutation while the stone is on a cooldown.

Specialities

On higher levels a skilled Alchemist is able to make a unique trinket for himself. Depending on his spec, there are 3 uncommon types of this trinket to choose from. These are: Mercurial Alchemist Stone – for dps casters and healers, Mighty Alchemist’s Stone – melee dps and Indestructible Alchemist’s Stone – tanks. These ornaments will increase the amount of health and mana you are able to receive from potions by incredible 40%. Since WOTLK expansion WoW players are only able to use one potion per fight and therefore this trinket comes very useful, especially for mana consumers.

Another fantastic thing about Alchemy is that the flask duration is prolonged. When one consumes a flask its duration will be 1h. But, if you are an Alchemist your flasks will last for two hours! This is very well-located as well as a gold saviour.

Specialization

At higher levels an Alchemist must choose his specialization. These specs are Potion master, Elixir master and Transmute master. By choosing one of these he will be able to irregularly make extra potions, elixirs or an extra transmute.

What can Alchemists learn?

While transmuting an Alchemist will also irregularly learn a new transmute. Same goes for the pots and elixirs. Since Wrath of the Lich King expansion Alchemists are able to perform a Northrend Alchemy Research to achieve new recipe discoveries. This research can be done every third day since it has a cooldown. To start a research an Alchemist will require Adder’s Tongue, Goldclover and Talandra’s Rose. He will also need Enchanted Vials (4) that can be bought at any Alchemy Supply vendor in Northrend as well as with some General Goods traders.

Flasks vs. Elixirs

Both flasks and elixirs have a longer lasting effect on its consumer. Elixirs are found in two types Battle & Guardian and those are the types one can combine. Both types of elixir last for an hour but their effect stops if a player dies in battle. Effect of a flask is also one hour in duration, but, if a player dies the flask effect will not disappear.
