WoW Skinning – The Masters of Anatomy

If you take the Skinning profession you can strip animals from their skin and obtain leather, hides and scales. You will not be able to skin all mobs and mostly mobs that could be skinned are beasts and dragonkin. Even though birds are beasts they cannot be skinned.
How to skin a certain mob?
When you grind mobs for skinning, the initially thing you should to do is take the loot. As soon as a mob is looted you can go your mouse over it and if a skinning pointer appears it means that it is a mob that can be skinned. Depending on the level of a mob your skill in Skinning will go up. If you skin mobs that are way below your skill level you will not gain points though and if they are a too high level for you, you will not even be able to skin them.
What tools do I need to be able to skin?
You do not need much in order to skin. But, every skinner wants a skinning knife. You can buy skinning knives at nearly any trade goods or general goods vendor.
There are also special knives for skinning that have a bonus to give you for your skill. The Skinning Knife that can be found in Blackrock Spire and the Zulian Slicer which can be found in Zul’Gurub are both knives that improve your skinning skills.

Combining Skinning and Leatherworking
Leatherworking is a profession that requires Skinning products such as hides and scales. Without these it will be impossible to level it. You can either buy leather on the AH or pair your Leatherworking profession with Skinning.
When you play WoW a bit more often you will realize that order professions also require leather. Leather is also used with Blacksmithing, Engineering and Tailoring.
Is Skinning profitable?
Skinning is certainly a profitable profession because it is so simple to gather leather. There are plenty of beasts around to kill in WoW. If you have a high level char then it will be really simple for you to grind any type of Leather.
Classes suitable for Skinning
When it comes to the choice of professions, each player should choose professions he finds fascinating, even though in general, Skinners and Leatherworkers are usually found in classes who can wear leather, such as Rogues or Druids. There are also many Hunters with this combo of professions austerely because they are quick grinders.
Another benefit of Skinning
In the Wrath of the Lich King Skinners were presented with a new ability – Master of Anatomy. This ability increases you critical strike rating by a certain percentage depending on your skinning level. If you reach 450 you will get 40 crit rating which is a nice bonus.
